Hybrid Power Production Systems (HPS)

The HPS of ILEKAT is field tested for a long time period, is the ideal solution for off-grid telecommunications base stations, but also for other applications (for example off-grid country houses).

The system is consisted of a PV modules string which is placed on a custom made shelter that is housing the batteries and the genset. The genset is operating in order to charge the batteries, only when the energy from the PV is not enough.

ILEKAT’s HPS is securing high fuel savings and maintenance/operations costs savings, because the genset is operating only in order to charge the batteries and during the rest of the time, the power supply is from the batteries.

Moreover, they are equipped with a remote monitoring and control system for the complete operations control of the system.

IN WHICH CASES THE HPS IS USED:

The best possible savings are achieved when the HPS is installed to an off-grid facility or to a remote site where the operational cost regarding the fuel and the maintenance are high.

IN WHICH APPLICATIONS THE HPS IS USED:

• To telecom base stations from 0.5kW up to 10kW.
• To TV repeaters
• To DC loads from 2.5kW up to 5kW
• To AC loads from 0.5kW up to 10kW
• To mixed AC and DC loads

WHY SHOULD I USE THE HPS:

The HPS is a “plug & play” system with:

LOW CAPEX

EXTREMELY LOW OPEX

MINIMUM ENVIRONMENTAL EMMISSIONS

MINIMUM TRANSPORTATION COST

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION:

The HPS is divided to the following compartments:

GENSET

The Genset is placed on the upper compartment (2nd level), where there is access from both the long sides of the HPS via central doors. The inclusive Genset is open type, with power 25kVA or higher, depending on the application.
The fuel supply at the Genset is taking place from the central fuel tank which is placed at the lower compartment (1st level) of the HPS. The access to the tank is taking place from the small side of the HPS via a removable cover. The tank fuel capacity is 840lt.
POWER ELECTRONICS

The power electronics are at the upper compartment (2nd level) and the access is taking place from the small side of the HPS.

The power electronics are consisted of the following:

1. Rectifying system 6pcs X 48V5A => 300A
2. Automation Panel of the Genset
3. A/C inverter (2300W)
4. Batteries automatic fluid filling and air lift system.
5. AC & DC fans
6. Rectifiers Controller (SCU)
7. Gensets controller (RGK 60)
BATTERIES

There is access to the lower HPS compartment (1st level) from the two long sides of the HPS, via three removable covers at each side.
Each HPS is equipped with one or two batteries rays (24pcs X 2V) of suitable capacity depending on the load.

TELEMONITORING

The telemonitoring system is placed on the upper compartment (2nd level) and the access to it is taking place from the same door as to the power electronics.

OPERATION PRINCIPLE

1. When the batteries are discharged to 45% - 50%, the Genset is operating supplying the laods to the consumption and recharging the batteries. Furthermore, in case there is PV installed, this is also charging the batteries. During the charging and as the batteries are gradually being charged, the fuel consumption from the Genset is minimized.
2. When the batteries are fully charged, the Genset stops and the consumption is feeded by the batteries only.
3. The batteries are never deeply discharged, as the Genset starts operating at a batteries load safety threshold which is programed by default.
4. The batteries compartment is fully isolating and aired.
5. The batteries are chosen for a minimum of five (5) years of operation.
